Volunteer Guidelines
Thank you for the donation of your time and energy to be part of our Parents on Campus program. Your visible presence on campus will promote a peaceful and caring atmosphere at school. Students and staff have been informed about the Parents on Campus program and are supportive and grateful for your presence and commitment.
As a Parents on Campus volunteer, you will help facilitate and maintain a safe and friendly campus environment. Parents on Campus functions within the administrative framework of the school, maintaining flexibility to meet changing needs and conditions. Parents on Campus assists the administration in reducing the safety-related distractions which interfere with a high-quality education for all students.
Maintain a Positive Attitude
While this is an important function, it should also be enjoyable. Remember that you are here to have a positive influence. Be friendly and talk with students and faculty. Be helpful, assisting faculty and staff as needed. Feel free to roam and become familiar with the entire campus.
Your Role as a Parents on Campus Volunteer
As a parent volunteer, your role on campus is to provide a positive presence. You are not here as a police officer or a security guard. Your responsibility is to help maintain a safe and caring environment on campus. Because of this, you have a passive role as a Parents on Campus volunteer.
- Resist the temptation to offer corrective advice
- It is not your role to correct student conduct or impose your own moral standards, but rather to deter negative conduct by your presence
- Do not break up fights. Call or radio for help instead
- Do not apprehend or stop any student for any reason
- Do not attempt to seize drugs or weapons. Pass the information on to the administration
- Reinforce positive behavior with a compliment
- Offer a helping hand if the opportunity presents itself
