Daily Tasks of the Coordinator
The coordinator (or designee) should:
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to the arrival of Parents on Campus volunteers
- Open the Parents on Campus office
- Provide locked cabinet for personal items
- Provide access to daily log book for parent comments and suggestions
- Meet and greet parents as they arrive on campus
- Direct parents to their name tags and Parents on Campus vests or jackets
- Help parents fill out log book and thank them for their participation when they leave
If parent volunteers are new or untrained, provide a short orientation including information on the following:
- Distribute map of campus and identify location of major facilities
- Provide copy of school rules/discipline handbook
- Discuss volunteers' areas of responsibility
- Emphasize need for safety
- Talk about need for interaction with students, staff, hall monitors
- Stress the importance of using the radio for assistance when needed (if Walkie-Talkies are used)
- Restroom locations
- Discuss where to take breaks (staff room, if appropriate)
- Distribute copy of bell schedule
- Provide a reality check and prepare adults for the campus environment
