Parents on Campus
Daily Tasks of the Coordinator

The coordinator (or designee) should:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the arrival of Parents on Campus volunteers
  • Open the Parents on Campus office
  • Provide locked cabinet for personal items
  • Provide access to daily log book for parent comments and suggestions
  • Meet and greet parents as they arrive on campus
  • Direct parents to their name tags and Parents on Campus vests or jackets
  • Help parents fill out log book and thank them for their participation when they leave

If parent volunteers are new or untrained, provide a short orientation including information on the following:

  • Distribute map of campus and identify location of major facilities
  • Provide copy of school rules/discipline handbook
  • Discuss volunteers' areas of responsibility
  • Emphasize need for safety
  • Talk about need for interaction with students, staff, hall monitors
  • Stress the importance of using the radio for assistance when needed (if Walkie-Talkies are used)
  • Restroom locations
  • Discuss where to take breaks (staff room, if appropriate)
  • Distribute copy of bell schedule
  • Provide a reality check and prepare adults for the campus environment
