Volunteer Campus Supervision Program Model
Kid Watch volunteer Norma Washington remembers a time when neighbors always watched children going to and from school. These days she sees it again and she isn't talking about remembering the good 'ole days anymore. The way Norma sees it, Kid Watch has brought back the values of yesteryear and has made her neighborhood a fun and safe place to be.
In 1993, Norma Washington and other neighbors came together to take back their neighborhood. The 36th Street Block Club took the neighborhood by storm, and gangs and drugs became a thing of the past. Then in 1996, they saw another opportunity in Kid Watch to enhance the safety of their streets and ensure the safety of children going to and from school. They adopted the program, and according to Norma, now the children "talk and laugh on their way to school and don't have to watch their backs anymore".
