An important aspect of Community on Patrol is to ensure students are aware of the program and its purpose. Announcement of the program to the student population can be done in a large group setting, such as an assembly, or in smaller group settings, such as classes that are required for all students. Be sure to tell students who will be patrolling the campus and why, and the types of situations in which Community on Patrol volunteers may intervene.

Introducing Community on Patrol to Students

Who Are They?

Patrol members are parents of students attending Everett Middle School. Emphasize that parent volunteers should be respected in the same manner as students would want their own parents respected. Stress the importance of the parents being at school to help.

Why Are They Here?

  • To help relieve some of the extra work of teachers and administrators
  • To help resolve minor conflicts and escort students to counselors if needed
  • To help make students feel safer
  • To help support students

What Will They Do?

Parent patrol may intervene in situations such as:

  • Disturbances during passing periods or near lockers
  • Students who are tardy or cutting classes
  • Minor conflicts anywhere on campus
  • Escorting student to counselor's office
  • Request for help from students
